It's a winter Wonderland
We got an inch or two in total and it melted away by Saturday afternoon. The snow really made my mom mad because it canceled my Uncle's flight in to visit! They had tons of plans to enjoy the three-day weekend. Tomorrow she's going to see Valentine's Day with a girlfriend. Can I go to the movies? I'd probably fit in one of her huge bags she carries around...

Hi, I'm RalphDog and I'm a cover hog! I love to be under the covers and snuggling. Its what I do best! The flannel sheets are extra warm on the bed this winter.... it's a good thing too! Atlanta is covered in snow, I played in it this morning and will post pictures later.

Dark Hair!

No, I didn't dye my hair dark [wouldn't I look funny!] but my mom tried a dark color for winter. Her hair is normally a light/medium brown and has been for years. It's not permanent so it will wash out soon. Here we are posing so she could send pictures home to my Nana Squirrel [nickname for my mom's mom- shes crazzzzzy]

As you can see, I'm sporting a red sweater. I will have to have a little fashion show of all my winter clothes.... tip... check out the dollar section at Target! Score!

The Rainbow Bridge

After 16+ wonderful years with my Uncle Jeff, Aunt Jean and my grandparents, Cousin Termite has crossed over the rainbow bridge. My grandparents, Nana & Daa, are so upset-- any comforting words or advice you can share?
My uncle Jeff passed five years ago in a plane crash, so now he is joined by his "co-pilot" Termite!

Hey Atlanta pups, hope everyone's headed to Piedmont Park on Saturday! I'm not going because I don't like to swim, as I'm a wader and a splasher. In other words, I freak out when my paws cannot touch! Here's all the details, taken straight from the park's website.

Piedmont Park Conservancy invites Atlanta’s four legged citizens to an end of season pool party – our 1st Annual Splish Splash Doggie Bash. Let your pooches cool off in the newly renovated pool at Piedmont Park on September 19, 2009 from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

We will have live music, dog-related vendors, goody bags, raffle prizes and more! Proceeds from this event will benefit the off-leash area and general maintenance of the Park as it relates to visitors with pets.

Sit Means Sit Dog Training will be on hand to talk about the safety of your dog around water. They will be doing live demonstrations that will show you how to keep your dog safe in and around the water, but still have fun.

Excerpts from a Cat's Daily Diary...

Day 983 of my captivity...

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets.

Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape... In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a 'good little hunter' I am.

Bastards.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight.

I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event.

However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of 'allergies.' I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking.. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released

- and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now.................

So peaceful and relaxing!
Hanging out in the tent. We stayed at the "Whispering Pines Campground" which had electric hookup, bathroom/showers, and a pool. If you don't need those features, really get in tuned with nature and explore the Chattahoochee National Forest.

My folks love to play cards all the time. They play Rummy, Poker, BlackJack, Go Fish.... my mom normally wins because shes awesome [okay... she told me to type that..haha]

Well Pups, I'm living in Atlanta! My dad is still in Virginia but decided my mom really needs some company so I got to stay. He is soo sweet to her [and me!]. She takes me for tons of walks and adventures. Here we are at Piedmont Park. Midtown is in the background... her office is somewhere in there

The bummer is Piedmont Park's Dog Park is closing for renovations, hopes to open in 2010. They will open a temporary park in the mean time. When we're not at Piedmont Park then we're walking the neighborhood. The weather here is super nice, so we're doing about 3-5 miles a night. We both love and need the exercise. We also like to run around the tennis courts.

So I hope we will be blogging more frequently and with more pictures. Stay tuned...

Yum Yum Yum. why everyone ate I had my own meal of kibble and sauce. It was so yum.
Woman- I'm trying to eat! Get the camera away.I have to tell ya'll when I first saw my mom I inorged her! I was really happy to see her parents and jumped all around but I snubbed her. Who does she think she is leaving me? Well don't worry we spent all weekend together snuggled up. I guess I'm not too mad at her anymore, but then she left again! She'll be home for Christmas- 3 weeks away!!

Here I am looking out the window for my mom- where the heck is she? She's been gone for over a month!!

Turns out she moved to Atlanta for a new job with her company and my dad and I are staying in Virginia for the time being. :-\ I did travel with them when they went to look for a place and boy- it was a long drive.

My dad went to visit her last week so I had to stay at the VET. I normally love my vet but they said I was upset when I was there- I think it reminded me of the pound! I get to see my mom over Thanksgiving and Christmas- so happy [shes excited too!!!] So stay tuned, she has lots of pictures to update

My mom found a news article on msnbc.com that she wanted to share about doggie's yawning. Of course she came home and tested this theory on me. She yawned a total of 3 times and yawned twice. The third time I ran away. My dad couldn't yawn so he faked it and he didn't fool me. Have your folks try it and let me know!

A Hugarian Pointer yawns during the fitting of a fleece jumper by Ulrike Schubert at Germany's first custom tailor shop for dogs in Leipzig, Germany. New research demonstrates that dogs can catch the yawns from humans.

LONDON - Dogs find human yawns contagious, suggesting they have a rudimentary capacity for empathy, British scientists said on Wednesday.

Although yawning is widespread in many animals, contagious yawning — a yawn triggered by seeing others yawning — has previously only been shown to occur in humans and chimpanzees.
It turns out, however, that man's best friend is highly sensitive to catching human yawns, with 72 percent of 29 dogs tested yawning after observing a person doing so.

Writing in the journal Biology Letters, Atsushi Senju and colleagues at London's Birkbeck College said this behavior showed dogs were skilled at reading human social cues and "may relate to their capacity for empathy."

Meet Sissy!

Sissy is my mom's dog she grew up with- in fact Sissy will be 14 on August 31st! She is Dachshund mixed with Fox Terrier and Brindle in color. Her brother is Cousin Termite.
Sissy really LOVES to eat- in fact she will start a fight over it! She is sorta "piggy" This is one of her tricks for getting food.
Here is Sissy singing a bit- she has a nice soprano voice.

My Favorite Dog Park!

Welcome to my dog park! Above is the nice area that has picnic tables and pretty flowers. Every Sunday morning my parents bring me to this park and they pick up bagels and have breakfast here.

The park is over 1 acre on the waterfront and beautiful- it's owned by PETA and they keep it up very nice [you know they're all about animals!]
I just want to be chased! Chase me chase me!Tons of pups!

Here is my family's float that is in the parade. We load it up with red, white, and blue and throw candy while moving down the street and yelling Happy 4th! Go America! Who-ooo.
This is the only picture we have of our float- the camera battery died! We had a good number of dogs and kids on the float.

4th of July Goodness

Okay doggies- going to take you thru a culinary lesson. Tell your folks to make this for their 4th of July celebrations! Yum-o
Step 1] Find the Crockpot/Slowcooker
2] Gather ingredients:

ONE of the following:
Boneless/Skinless Chicken
Ground Turkey
Ground Beef
or Ground Chicken [we've used all - ground turkey is good]

Depending on your pick:
Brown the ground meat in a skillet or slice the chicken breast

-22 oz diced tomatoes
-Can of red beans
-Can of black beans
-Can of corn
-Can of cheap beer
-Packet of taco seasoning

Add ingredients to slow cooker and let it do the magic! Let cook for few hours, stirring occasionally. We add chili pepper and a dash of hot sauce. Serve warm with sour cream and tortilla chips. Enjoy!!!

Happy Father's Day

Well this post, along with many others, is long overdue. I haven't been up to anything exciting or any extreme vacations so no more excuses!

For Father's Day I made my dad a card and dinner! See the card- it has cheetah's on it with their little cubs. How sweet- he likes to see big cats on TV and I like to chase the little kitties in the neighborhood.

For dinner he had a grilled turkey burger [which turned out really dry-yuck] with teryiki and grilled pineapple. I didn't even have a bite! My mom made up the bland meal a few days later with her infamous Taco Soup! Delish.

I think my paw-writing is greatly improving- especially for not having thumbs.

Happy 81st Nana!

Today is my Nana's 81st Birthday so we thought we should share how awesome she is. She loves all of us pups in the family.
Here she is with my Cousin Sissy. Sissy came to visit with me and Cousin Termite last weekend. We all wanted to be with Nana. Termite gets to stay for the WHOLE week though! Lucky dog.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Mother's Day is here upon us and I wanted to take a minute to reflect on my mom. Here we are rubbing noses, like Eskimo kisses. She found me on Pet Finder and made a bee line to the shelter with my dad. She said it was love at first site.
It looks like here I told a funny joke and she's cracking up. She always messes up on telling jokes- which is funny but not the way it was meant to be.
Here she is trying to scare me. I know she's just playing. In all of these pictures you may think my ear is messed up, it's just to show you my ear is nice and clean. My dad cleans them every time I get a bath, because when I came to them I had funky ears.
Grrr... we like to wrestle around and have fun! See I'm chewing on her hand- that's fun right? Hope you all have fun with your moms!

Neighborhood Walk

A roll down by the water is great way to start any day. It was super smelly down there today so I had to get some smell on me- right after I had my flea junk on me- which meant no bath when I got home- had that planned well, didn't I?

Hey check out this pup I met- Looks like I was formally introduced. If you click on the picture you can see the large size and notice on his face it's a white mark. After talking to his dad we learned he had a wart removed and that area turned white!

Rock N Roar!

My folks decided to get jiggy with the monkeys over at the Virginia Zoo! I snuck in behind them to take all of the pictures... just kidding they wouldn't let me in. My dad decided if I went to the zoo then they would want to keep me cause I'm so cute. My mom just said- well it would boost their visitors!

An ice sculpture of the Virginia Zoo Logo- they had many different ice sculptures- some of animals and more! If I came to the party and saw this I would have surly marked my spot-- would have melted faster then!
The Zoo is getting a train! Norfolk Southern is a big sponsor of the zoo and will be adding a train to run through the zoo. Whoot!
There was a costume contest- above are the most creative and craziest folks. There were many people in exotic animal prints. There was a TON of food from lots of different restaurants and bakeries- here are a few if you want to visit- maybe you have one by you: Black Finn, Sterlings, Roger Browns, The Melting Pot, Sugar Plum Bakery and many more!

Dinner is looking good! Why doesn't my mom fix something like this every nite?
Let me see- what do we have here? Some spinach and ricotta stuffed manicotti, focaccia bread from the deli, Ceasar salad, and a nice glass of Pinot Noir.
Is that a pickle on the side? Whatever.. still looks good to me.
Whats for dessert? Yum- strawberries! I just love fruit especially strawberries.

My mom went to a cool networking event at her work a while ago and worked on a 15 word description of you or what you do. Then the next step was to boil all that down to one word to describe yourself.
Since there was a tennis theme at the event she ended up with a toy for me. I foun the tennis ball in her bag and snuck it out. She soon realized I had found my cute surprise and decided to tease me with it.
Woman- give me the ball!!!
Okay, that's better. What's your word? I think my word would be energetic too!

Happy Easter!!! Here I am wearing my "Who's your Bunny?" shirt. I hope everyone had a nice weekend celebrating with family and friends. Today my folks went to church to celebrate Easter and remember the real reason.
Since I didn't go to church, I had to listen carefully for the Easter Bunny. Didn't want him to sneak up on me!
Looks like Nana had decorated for Easter! She is such a neat lady and decorates for every holiday, even Presidents day with various flags!
The plate in the background is painted by Aunt Cindee painted, she's a cool lady. I hope everyone had a great time!

St. Pats + MY BIRTHDAY Party!

Hey pals! I hope everyone had a great St. Patty's day. As you can see I'm wearing green so I won't get pinched. Today was my un-official 2nd birthday! I am 2 years old!!!

My parents adopted me in Sept 07 when I was approx. 1.5 years old so we decided to celebrate my birthday on March 17th.
I wanted to have a partyyyyy with my family and friends. My friend here is Pixie! She is a fun little puff of fur who likes to play.
Grrrr.... woof.... grrrrr. Pixie is expecting a sister within the next week so we are very excited to have someone else to play with.
Pixie has TONS of great toys. I had to try them all out, here I am with a bird. I'm pretty sure it's her favorite squeaky. We got it together one shopping trip to Petsmart.
This was my favorite toy of Pixie's! A pully, squeaky SANTA. How awesome. My parents and their friends went out for dinner then came back so we could play some more with Pixies toys. The humans played the board game LIFE- Pirates of the Caribbean. Man, I love celebrating!!!

Cousin Termite

This is my cousin Termite! He lives with my mom's fabulous Aunt Jean. Termite often goes to the grandparents for Doggie Daycare and overnite trips. He loves to visit them and is spoiled rotten. In fact he is even treated like a little prince. My mom often rolls her eyes about Termie.

Here he is baking in the sunlight. Termite is related to Sissy. Sissy lives with my other grandparents out in the country. Sissy is a tough mountain dog and Termite, well Termite is a city boy [note- not a dog] We'll do a mini Q&A interview with Sissy later

Yawn!

Recently Termite had 5 teeth pulled at the vet's office. Please think of him as he is healing, he was already missing some teeth and may have to get more pulled!

Squirrel Attack!

I went on a walk with my mom over the weekend and had to pull and try to chase every squirrel that came across our path.

Successful at scaring those little rascals up a tree but not so much for catching them and shaking them like I do my toys.

Then today on a walk with my dad I decided to protect him from the beasts as well! Every other pup like to chase squirrels? Ever caught one?

Boo Boo Head

I have a boo-boo on the top of my head. A few weeks ago I went to the vet to get it looked over, turns out its an allergy that I keep picking at. So the other nite, it's almost healed I start scratching it. My folks decide it would be good to wrap my head with something so I wouldn't pick it any more and so I could sleep. So I wind up with a sports bra on my head.
Not very flattering, but it keeps me from messing with it and stops bleeding.
Here I am poking my head out from under the bed, don't worry they took off the impromptu ace bandage before too long!

A little cupid whispered in my ear that it was Valentines Day. I asked what does that mean? The cupid replied its a day to share your love with someone. I thought, I do that everyday! But, to make it special I wanted to share some treats with my mom, so this is what I gave her:

Rockin out in my new clothes! I found this hoodie at Old Navy, what do you think? I had a great weekend, I went to visit my grandparents, or my mom's grandparents. They are in their 80s and say I really give them a spunk. Well, they are still spunky for their age! Their backyard is so fun to run and run and run in. Saturday nite we had a nice big dinner with lots of family over which was so fun. So, I did a lot of running and entertaining with my cuteness.

I'm going to start blogging more than every 2 weeks! So stay tuned for more updates

Hey doggies! Sorry I've been MIA lately, I will have to do a recap post of my Christmas at another time, we're waiting to get FILM back because my mom decided to drop the digital camera.

This weekend was in the 50s to 60s here on the coast of Virginia, I was able to do lots of things! I went to a new dog park and they had a section for small dogs, so I went there and of course wanted to play, play, play. Then my parents hung out with their friends who have a Shih Tzu, Pixie, and a cat. I despise cats but this dude weighs 21 pounds so I had to behave and to tell you I did pretty good! Pixie and I went shopping at Petsmart for new toys and treats. Great times had by all

I've travelled home to be with my folk families in the mountains, its really pretty here and there was even a dusting of snow this morning! It didn't last long, but good thing I have a new sweater. Stay Warm!

So here I am skating at Butchy & Snicker's skating party, my mom came along to chaperon [aka pick up poop] I've been practicing my spread eagle, flying camel, toe loop, and triple axel moves.

Snoozing

Sometimes I take the pillow- what how do you want me to support my neck? I don't demand 600 thread count sheets but a little pillow room is great.

I bark in your face... like it or not

How can this sweet little face be in a little bit of trouble? Well I just get so wound up and hyper when it's time to play at the dog park that it makes others mad. Not me, other people, like my folks and a rude lady.

Recently they started taking me to the local dog park about once a week to introduce and let me run and play. The issue is I am an attention hog from the other dogs. I want them chase or run with me. When a dog does not do this right away or ignores me, I tell him by getting down, wagging tail and bark in their face. It gets really shrill and other people there do not like me. In fact today my folks over heard a lady talking about how I have an attitude. Boy, this made my mom mad at the lady for talking trash about me- so she is taking over the typing now:

In the environment with other dogs Ralph will not listen or response to normal commands, it's like he gets so distracted and excited with other dogs. We have had him home from the shelter for about 2 months and he really knows his name now, but will ignore us in the park. It looks like we cannot control him and he's a wild child, while other places he is the sweetest little thing. We love the space the dog park provides and want to continue going but we get the feeling that people do not like Ralph because of his barking to play. This is really the only time he barks/yips.

What steps should we take for a more quiet play time? Thank you!
